Comedy and Mistaken Identity

Mistaken identity is a centuries-old comedic device in which characters are confused with one another, or in which a character disguises themselves to deceive others. Shakespeare used this trope frequently, most notably in 'The Comedy of Errors', 'Twelfth Night', and 'As You Like It'.
